Sharks are perhaps one of the most mysterious creatures on our planet. Very little is known about them .All we can think of when we think about sharks are the scenes from Steven Spielberg’s iconic movie “JAWS”. One can never forget the huge mechanical great white shark terrorizing the visitors of Amity beach. So every time there is a show on television about sharks we leave whatever we are doing and get glued to the television set.
Normally apart from movie channels, shows about sharks are shown in nature channels like Discovery, National Geographic, Animal Planet etc. Whenever these channels shown something special about sharks they tend to find innovative ways of marketing them.
Discovery channel in recent years has shown such special shows about sharks to feed the curiosity among people about this elusive in some cases dangerous creature. They have held events like Shark week where they have shown various programs regarding sharks. In order to market such events the people in Discovery Channel have placed a huge shark on the office building at downtown Silver Spring.
They had pulled this stunt before in previous years but somehow it still has the ability to draw people’s attention. People passing by are all of a sudden amazed at the sight of this huge shark coming out of the building as if jumping out of the building at them. Every time people see this spectacle they think something is coming up in this channel.
This experiment worked much better than all other publicity stunts pulled by Discovery Channel for their other shows. One can only imagine what they might do if they are having specials about teleportation.
The shark has been named Chompie and it does not make such time for people to realize that the Discovery Channel building and the massive shark can mean one and only one thing; it’s Shark Week once again. Nobody in his or her right frame of mind will use a shark to promote shows about elephants.
